Unit 3 Project: Mixed Messages Tobacco

Now that we’ve taken a look at the effects of nicotine and tobacco on our bodies and how the media has a huge influence on the choices that we make as consumers, your task is to examine the smoking campaigns currently in the media and redesign them to create an effective, informative Anti-Smoking Campaign.

The Description of the performance task is below.  

STEP 1:  Read through all the points carefully. For this project, you will be working in pairs. Decide who will be in charge of working on what.

STEP 2: Review the powerpoint and chapter in the textbook below on Tobacco and Smoking

STEP 3: Review the power point and notes on Advertising Techniques



 

STEP 4: Select the Cigarette Advertisement you will use for your project

STEP 5: Identify at least 2 advertising techniques used in the Advertisement you chose. 

STEP 6: Write Paragraph 1 – description of the original techniques used in the advertisement you chose (See Rubric and Instructions)

STEP 7: Time to redesign your Advertisement!

STEP 8: Write Paragraph 2 – description of how you changed your ad, what techniques you used, etc (See Rubric and Instructions)

STEP 9: Write Paragraph 3 – How you can personally avoid tobacco, what are three things you learned, etc (See Rubric and Instructions)

STEP 10: Put it all together and be ready to present to the class!

 

Unit 2 Project: Hurtful Behaviors and Conflict Management

We’ve spent a number of classes discussing the importance of Respect, types of Respect we feel most important to us, ways of showing respect, types of disrespect, cyber bullying, social media, and ways of addressing disrespect.  In the upcoming classes you will be working on a mini-lesson that your group will be using to “teach” the class about Hurtful Behaviors and Conflict Management.

Your goal:  To produce a 2-page comic strip to contribute to the class “Anti-bullying Magazine.”  complete with a clear understanding of a social issue and clear guidelines for how that can be resolved through Conflict and Resolution skills.

Unit 4 Performance Task – 100% Me

Your last performance task for the semester involves taking everything you have learned about Reproductive Health and translating it into a fun, educational, and informative board game for 6th Grade students coming into the 7th Grade.  Below you will find everything you need to get started.  Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Have fun!

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR TASK AND RUBRIC:

After you have played the board game with G6 students  . . .  . .we will have a 10 minute GUIDED discussion in small single gender groups about transitioning into 7th grade.

 

G7 students will answer this question: What would you tell your younger self about puberty?
