Gluten – Christian

Is wheat inadequate? Why is this substance we perceive as harmless so “bad” for all of us? Well, in the big picture wheat is surprisingly awful, and for that same reason many athletes, Hollywood superstars and chefs have given up wheat. One of the easiest ways to keep yourself healthy is by not consuming wheat. Avoiding the consumption of wheat is absolutely necessary because it has heaps of gluten, minimal nutrients, and it is overly processed.

Gluten is single handedly the most detrimental proportion of wheat. In fact, 14 kilograms of rice has an equivalent amount of gluten to 1 kilogram of bread? Scary, isn’t it? In reality, wheat has the highest amount of gluten compared to any other grain. It sits at 70% when based on the total amount of protein in the grain. In comparison, rice sits snugly at 5%, corn lays at 55%, oats end up at 16%, and rye equalizes at about 40%. That’s why wheat is the worst grain in the Poaceae family, and overall. In fact, reality is contradictory to what most people believe. Gluten is actually a sticky, stretchable protein, what holds grains together, (That’s why gluten is latin for glue), but how exactly does gluten affect a human? Well, when gluten first enters our stomach, instead of doing what food normally does ( Traveling through the center, then getting absorbed into the cell and later absorbed into the bloodstream, where it would nourish the body) gluten creates a permeable hole between the cells and goes directly into the bloodstream, to create antibodies, and destroy body tissue ( Resulting to leaky gut) Additionally there are many diseases found in patients with gluten sensitivity, they are:

Angina Pectoris (chest pain / pressure), Anorexia, Immunoglobulin Opathies, Antiphospholipid syndrome, Anxiety, Apathy, Aphthous ulcers and canker sores, Aortic Vasculitis, four types of Arthritis, Abdominal pain and distention, Spontaneous abortion, Addison’s Disease, ADHD, ADD, Alopecia (hair loss), seven different nutrition related Anemia, Ataxia, Atherosclerosis, Autism and other learning disorders, Cholangitis (gallbladder), Dermatitis Herpetiformis, Autoimmune hepatitis, Polyglandular syndrome, Thyroiditis (hypothyroidism), Bitot’s spots, Blepharitis, Abnormal blurry vision, Bone pain, Bone fractures, Cachexia, Bronchiectasis, Bronchoalveolitis, Adenocarcinoma of the intestine, Small cell esophageal cancer, Melanoma, Asthma, Cardiomegaly, Cardiomyopathy, Cataracts, Cerebral perfusion abnormalities, Cheilosis, Chorea, Coagulation abnormalities, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative colitis, Chronic constipation, Coronary artery disease, Diarrhea, Lymphoma, Cutaneous vasculitis, Cystic fibrosis, Delayed puberty, Failure to thrive, Dementia, Depression, Dermatomyositis, Diabetes Mellitus type I, Down syndrome, Dysmenorrhea, Dysgeusia, Duodenal erosions, Edema, Eczema, Dysphagia, Epilepsy, Spontaneous nose bleeds, Erythema nodosum, CFS, Growth retardation, Mental retardation, Secondary food allergy response, Blood in the stool, Gastric bloating, Grave’s disease, Bleeding gums, hair loss, heartburn, H. pylori infection, Hives, NAFL, Malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies, Infertility, Hypogonadism, Hypoglycemia, Hyposplenism, Thrombocytopenia, Impotence, Osteoporosis, Insomnia, IBS, Keratomalacia, Lactose intolerance, Loss of smell, Non Hodgkin lymphoma, Early menopause, Migraine headache, Multiple sclerosis, Muscle wasting, Myopathy, Obesity, Osteomalacia, Parathyroid carcinoma, Pancreatic insufficiency, Polymyositis, PMS, Biliary cirrhosis, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Sjogren’s syndrome, Short stature, Scleroderma, Steatorrhea and Spina bifida.

That’s just to list a few. Additionally these diseases show that anybody can be born with gluten sensitivity, however the fact of the matter is that a large amount of these illnesses are aggravated by gluten. So we should all rethink eating wheat no matter who we are.

Finally many famous people have given up wheat like for a competitive edge and healthy lifestyle, like: LeBron James (NBA), Kobe Bryant (NBA), Aaron Rodgers (NFL), Novak Djokovic (#1 Tennis player in the world), Justin Rose (Golfer), Matthew McConaughey (Actor), Miley Cyrus (Singer), Gary Ablett (AFL), Tom Jones (Singer), Pete Evans (Chef and judge of My Kitchen Rules Australia), and David Reynolds (V8 Supercars). Also The Melbourne Football Club (nicknamed The Demons), Aussie Cricket Team (Won the world cup for cricket), and an English Premier League soccer team. The similarities through these teams is that they all kept quiet about their healthy diet to have an advantage. The only reason the world knows is because their doctors told the world their secret.
