I choose this issue because this issue heavily affects my family. Heart disease runs in my family, therefore I should know about this. Heart disease can easily and eventually come to me in the near future. By researching about this I might as well help myself right now. I knew that heart disease was caused when one of your arteries is clogged. Later on I made connections to what we had learned in class and what my dad went through. In the previous learning we learned what could happen to a patient of heart disease. I vaguely remember my dad going through similar stages like those. For example, once when my dad woke up he was in shock and he was sweating. This was because his chest felt very heavy. This issue is relevant to me because this is something my mom and dad have told me to be aware of my whole life. This is important to me because this can happen to me anyday, anytime. I have to be aware and prepared. This affects teenagers because teenagers tend to eat bad which causes their arteries to get some what clogged. Most teenagers aren’t as aware as adults, therefore they could much easily get this.
I’ve learned ways to prevent heart disease. This has expanded my learning because now I actually now how to prevent getting harmful diseases.For example I’ve learned that smoking can easily cause heart disease;therefore now I know to be very careful if I ever come across a cigarette/cigar. I think this issue is very important and that everyone should be aware of this. When I learned that some amounts of food, such as fast food, had very high amounts of cholesterol and sugar I was very surprised. I used to eat fast food thinking this was good and that it wouldn’t do anything bad to my body. Now I know wouldn’t willing eat fast food. I don’t think my thinking has changed in a major way. I have always thought of heart disease as a major topic and should be very carefully dealt with. Moving on, when you hear the phrase “Heart Disease” you think that there is something wrong with your heart and that your heart needs to be fixed. Well some people don’t understand that it’s not something only something wrong with your heart, but it’s something wrong with the way your heart gets blood. In wellness we learned about this. This makes me think that in wellness we would learn things that are even more important than this. This makes me think that wellness could potentially be the most important subject.

Decreased productivity Social media can be used to improve productivity but most of the time it is distracting and we get distracted instead of doing what we need to do. Less privacy. Social networks encourage us to be more public about our lives and post more. Also, the information that you post is visible to facebook employees and will remain posted forever. Most sites do let you control who sees your post these features are often forgotten.

I chose stress as my topic because I know that studies and works can be very stressful to students and adults. I have learned that stress occurs when we react to particular events. Stress is a feeling that is made when we act to a specific cases/events. It is a way of going to a high position to a challenge and being ready to deal with situations with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness. Also, life changes that reacts as a factor to our body and mind.
This issue is important because stress has a powerful impact on teenagers and adults because they work everyday and have lots of things to do which stress can be common to them.
As I have seen people who is being affected by stress, which they have different symptoms such as a severe headache, fatigue, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and difficulty concentrating. Plus, some people have been affected further by having depression, high blood pressure, weight gain or loss. If the stress is really too much, it can even cause heart attacks which people can die by being affected too much for an individual.
When does stress occur? Stress occurs when you are having difficulties with something that makes you feel very tired, pains, etc. When you feel it’s too much for you, feel the symptoms above for a long time, or have more than two-three of the symptoms.

For Wellness class, we had to present about a topic related to wellness and the topic that I chose was Stroke. I chose this topic because back in 2010, my father suffered a stroke, but luckily, it was only a minor one and he suffered no permanent damages to his body. Nevertheless, a stroke is a very serious thing and I feel that everybody should know what it is and how to be prepared for it. I knew that stroke affects the brain and if it isn’t treated, it will kill you. This issue affects teenagers because if a teenager gets a stroke, worst case scenario, a stroke can lead to paralysis (being unable to move parts of the body), loss of speech, memory loss, problems thinking or feeling or controlling emotions, or even death.
I never knew that a stroke could trigger a heart attack (because they are caused by the same thing) and I found that very interesting. A common misunderstanding is that strokes are rare. It is a fact that every 45 seconds, someone in United States has a stroke and, on average, one American dies from a stroke every 4 minutes. To avoid getting a stroke, the most important ways are to eat healthy and exercise regularly. Learning about stroke has kept me conscious about my health and it has helped me make sure I exercise.

I picked this topic because I am interested in sleep and I think sleeping is a very important thing.I also wondered about why the infants always slept more than us. I also connect to the need of sleep as a 13 year old growing child. This is important because sleep development is a process you need to go through to grow faster, learn better, and sleep regularly. If a infant doesn’t go through this process, he/she wouldn’t learn while sleeping as others do, won’t get enough sleep.
I learned how important sleeping is when I am young and growing up. I always thought that sleeping only restored my strength and grow up. But actually, we do a lot more while sleeping such as learning new words and sounds. Now I think I should try to sleep earlier and longer.
The topic I chose was Benefits of Music. I chose this topic because a lot of people listen to music so I thought that it would be interesting to know some benefits of it. I already knew that music can affect your thoughts and your brain but I didn’t know how. This topic is important because listening to music can help you in many ways- physical, mental, intellectual. This affects teenagers a lot because at least 9 out of 10 teenagers listen to music so this can help them a lot.
I never knew that music could impact on your learning, I found that very interesting. I don’t think people who listen to music regularly know that. In fact, I think that people think that listening to music is bad for your ears. An article states that classical music is helpful when your work involves numbers or attention to detail, pop music is helpful when your work involves data entry or working to deadlines. So in conclusion, listening to music can be helpful in many, many ways.
I chose allergy as a topic because I find allergy amusing. How come some people react to certain things and to others its just harmless? So I Learned that “allergens” is the substance that triggers the immune system of certain people and it overreacts, and this allergen has different kinds. Some comes from the environment meaning from, dust, pollens, grass, dirty places, molds etc. There are some from animals, like furry pets, insects etc, and the most common allergens are from food like eggs, shellfish and nuts.
Occurrence of allergy varies, for some its seasonal meaning it depends on the weather when its cold or the hotness of places there are at. For common people they have known that they have allergens already and it occurs to them when in contact with it accidentally. Occurrence can be mild attack or deadly attack.
I was bothered by these attack when I saw someone who had these attacks, I have encountered people who had an allergic attack, their body really over reacts and they have different symptoms like skin rashes, swelling, vomiting, and the most dangerous of all is difficulty breathing that causes death “ANAPHYLAXIS”
How does allergy happen? It occurs when you got contact with allergic things and then your body releases a chemical called HISTAMINE which is dangerous to your body.
Ways to prevent: Immunologists (Doctors for allergies) can cure the allergens, and you should have yourself check or tested for the cause.
The issue I chose was that music can affect swimming speed by up to 10%. I chose this issue because I’m a dedicated swimmer and try to find any way to get better and faster. This affects me because as I swimmer I have found a better way to be more efficient in the water. Before coming across this article, I didn’t know anything about how music affects speed, but I had previous knowledge that metronome helps you swim at a faster pace. This issue is extremely relevant to me and other teenagers because it helps prevent child obesity, improves wellbeing, it is also easier for children with disabilities to do sports, and it can help you make friends.
The first time I learnt that swimming could affect your speed by up to 10% was when my mother sent me an article on it. This article expanded my knowledge of swimming and made me realise that there are more progressive ways to get good other than straight out hardcore training every day. I thought this was a fairly new aspect of swimming and I now understand technology can possibly help us more than a coach ever could. This is surprising to me because I an now able to use a somehow hidden factor to my advantage. This has changed my thinking that the old conventional way of training isn’t always the best and this information I have learned can be applied in upcoming races I have to compete in. Some misunderstandings about this issue is that if you listen to any music you can swim faster. In this case, it is only certain types of music that can benefit you and other types will be to your disadvantage. I now think Wellness is not just about learning about the human body and how it works, but it is also composed of interesting topics such as these we are being allowed to research in class

I chose this issue because I have a passion for reading and I want other people to know that reading is important. Since I see a lot of people on screens all day, I decided to tell them as to how and why is reading important. This is important because reading can help you many mental, emotional, social, and physical ways. It affects people with the concerns of their health and their brain improvement. It can also tell them to get off their screens, and spend some time on themselves reading.
What I found that was interesting was that reading can lower your chances of getting Alzheimer’s disease. I have also learned that people who read can handle relationships better than people who don’t. To summarize, reading is good for your body and yourself. Reading actual books is better than reading on a screen. This influences my thinking by telling me to continue reading for the rest of my life. It has also influenced my into thinking that to maintain a powerful brain, I have to keep on reading.
