Annabelle – Benefits of Drinking Water

I chose to do my health buzz on the benefits of drinking water, because a lot of teenagers struggle with drinking enough water, and they don’t know why water is so good for them. In fact, approximately 75% of Americans struggle with dehydration. This shows how much of a problem dehydration is. I hope this helps people understand the benefits of drinking water, and encourage them to do so. My connection to this is that sometime last year I was running, I didn’t have much water before the race. I was running, and started to feel dizzy, but mainly like I couldn’t get enough oxygen in. I had to stop, I was simply overheated, because water helps control your body’s internal temperature, and I didn’t have enough water. This expands my learning because I used to always be scared of drinking water, because I really didn’t want to get a stitch while running, but now I know that it is a good idea to make sure you are hydrated before the race. 


Throughout the time that I have been learning about the benefits of drinking water, I have gained a lot of knowledge. I now know the various benefits of drinking water, and also the effects of being dehydrated, which is when your body loses more water than you intake, your body will find it harder to carry out its normal functions.  Some benefits that drinking water has on your body are:

  • Drinking Water helps your body maintain the balance of fluids
  • Water can help make your skin look good
  • Can help with weight loss
  • Water can help energize your muscles
  • Water can help you maintain normal bowel function
  • It’s a vital nutrient for your cells
  • It helps regulate our internal body temperature
  • Lubricates joints
  • Forms saliva
  • Helps flush out waste from your urine

Some effects that happen when you’re dehydrated are:

  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Inability to focus
  • Dizziness
  • Mood swings
  • Constipation

Overall, the importance of water can not be over looked. Humans can’t survive 2-3 days without water, showing how vital the substance is for our bodies. Water a highly nutritious option, making it also key to drink as much water as possible instead of sugary drinks, these types of drinks are dense in unnecessary sugars. In the long run, it is more useful/helpful for your bodies to try to be frequently drinking water. Chances are that if you’re thirsty then your body is actually already dehydrated, because dehydration triggers your body’d thirst response. This learning as also effected my thinking about wellness, because it shows that being hydrated is a step on how to have and live a balanced, and healthy lifestyle.
