I chose Cannibalism because….
I learned that if you look at it from outsider’s perspective, it is bad because you think killing a person and actually eating him/her is not normally acceptable, but if you judge cannibalism based on that society’s beliefs, then it is good because their intention is acceptable in their culture.
My thinking about has changed because, I thought it was like eating steak or like eating a animal alive. But instead it was someone eating their own kind.
Why did I choose this? Because it sounded like a really nice topic and a fantastic subject to study on.
I chose this topic because stress happens to me a lot. In place like school, house and other places. It is really important to become aware about stress because if this happens with you, you might feel sad and mad or even worse you might even feel that you are lost.
There are lot techniques to treat stress. You can do relaxation techniques like meditation, talking with someone and other things. Stress is happens in a daily basis. The only thing you can do is treat it. Taking stress to seriously could be dangerous. It rare cases you might even feel that you don’t have a purpose in life and commit suicide so you have to be aware on how to treat stress
I chose this topic because many people deal with this problem. This is a relevant topic to me because I always want to be perfect. I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one. Proof of my perfectionism is that it’s March 8, and my Health Buzz isn’t due till April 21. I cringe every time I see a classmate forget homework, or when I see really messy lockers. I am also interested in how people are able to be okay, with okay. Another symptom I have is that I am always unhappy with my body. I stare at myself in the mirror and see all the things I want to change, I actually eat less than the amount that I can actually eat. This is really important because it adds stress, and stress is hardly ever good for you. This affects teens because the stress of homework and school adds to the stress of perfectionism. Always wanting to get the best grades, and finishing homework way ahead of time, dieting to look like thin. These could actually be unhealthy for a functioning student.
A new thing that I’ve learned from this topic is that perfectionism could be both good and bad. Wanting good grades and being organize is good right? It’s bad when one takes it to the extremes, like staying up til 3am to study for a test the next month. Perfectionists also can have eating disorders, because of the want to have the perfect body. Some signs of perfectionism may be; Always eager to please, unhappy with average, You create strict rules for yourself, and you beat yourself up. High-achieving athletes, scientists, and artists often show signs of perfectionism. This changes my thinking because now I know that I need to relax a little more. I actually was supposed to do this topic about my uncle, until I realized that I have symptoms of perfectionism.
This picture shows the thinking of a perfectionist.
I chose this topic because I wanted to learn more about it. My cousin has Autism and I was always curious why he was acting strange around me and other people so I saw this opportunity to learn more about the disorder Autism and share it with others. This is important to me because I am really close to my cousin and whenever he visits the Philippines I am with him almost all the time he is here. It affects teenagers because of their relationships with autistic kids and normal kids. Autistic kids have difficulty establishing connections with others and maybe other kids would judge autistic kids.
I have learned more in-depth about the disorder and how common it is around the world. My thinking before learning about this topic was that I just thought they are socially awkward around people. Now that I know more about Autism I know that it is a disorder developed in childhood and has many different signs that can show it. Yet people with autism have strengths, for example my cousin is really good at memorising and building legos. This has influenced my thinking on being grateful that I was born normal, but it is important to be aware so that we do not misjudge other people and make fun of them.
I chose Homicidal sleepwalking because I thought it was interesting and scary for people to murder family or friends in their sleep. I also chose this because i have experienced parasomnias; sleepwalking and sleep start. (Sudden movements during the first levels in sleep)Its important to know about this parasomnia for the defence of somebody killing someone in an unconscious state. This luckily doesn’t affect most people today, as there has been only 68 cases reported until 2005.
I have learned that Parasomnia is a bigger deal than what i thought it was, and I learned that there are many things that we still have yet to learn about parasomnia. I also learned that Stress, depression, and sleep deprivation is what caused one of the few cases in homicidal sleepwalking, No one really knows what homicidal sleepwalking is caused by.I think this is probably one of the worst parasomnias because most of the victims in the cases are either family members or friends and the person with this parasomnia would probably be guilty for their whole life and it could make him lose his family and friends because of this situation. This has changed my thinking because I never knew that parasomnias could be that extreme which made me more interested and i wanted to learn more about it. It also made me more interested in wellness because it made me wonder if anything we are learning now could cause any parasomnia.
I chose this issue because when I first heard about it, I couldn’t believe that there would be a fear in happiness because I thought everyone loves to become happy. This expanded my thinking by knowing that there are some people who don’t like to become happy. This affect teenagers because I think that cherophobia may lead to bad behavior in teenagers for example smoking, taking drugs, etc. due to lack of happiness.
I learned deeper into cherophobia. I learned what causes this and the symptoms to cure it. Some causes to cherophobia is external events or previous events that occurred in your life (usually when you’re young). Also brain chemistry contributes to developing this phobia. I also learned that the symptoms to cherophobia vary on the person’s level of fear. My thinking changed completely as I learned more about this phobia. My honest first reaction was to laugh because it felt so impossible but now I know that this is a huge problem that needs help. This influences me to learn carefully in wellness class to know more about myself. I also think we should learn more about different types of phobias.
I am interested in this topic because I heard a little before about seizures, and I found out that you can have it all the time and never notice it. It happened to one of our classmates, and I wanted to know more about it. It is relevant to people in our age, because one of the types of seizures called Absence seizures, which only usually happens to children.
I learned that there are around 77 causes of seizures, Epilepsy being the most common one (brain disorder). I also learned that there are 6 types of seizures. Generalized Seizures: when patient loses consciousness and collapses. Absence Seizures: short period of unconsciousness (patient stares blankly). Myoclonic Seizures: when patient involuntarily jerks or moves. Clonic Seizures: rhythmic and repetitive series of jerks and movements. Tonic Seizures: stiffening of muscles. Atonic Seizures: when muscles forget how to function, and body collapses. Some effects are that the patient has difficulty speaking and writing, is sleepy, feels lightheaded, has memory loss, has slow reactions, and can get easily confused. I think seizures can be dangerous, and can affect someone very badly, so I think everyone should be conscious if have seizures, and know exactly what symptoms can happen, so they are aware when they can have their next seizures. Before I thought you are never conscious during a seizure, but know I know that sometimes you can be conscious, but your body doesn’t want to respond. I now think that wellness can be very important, because most people that have these incidents don’t know any of this.
Seizures start in one part of the brain, then spread, which leads to jerking. Patients say it feels like being electrocuted by lightning.
Amnesia is a loss of memory caused by brain damage, disease, psychological trauma, various sedative and hypnotic drugs. Amnesia can be either whole or partial loss of memory There are two main parts of amnesia, retrograde amnesia and anteretrograde amnesia. Retrograde amnesia is inability to return memories from the date of an accident or operation. Anteretrograte amnesia is inability to remember things for long periods of time.
There are no medication to treat amnesia. The only way to treat it is by talking to a therapist to retrieve some of the memories or train your memory not to forget any thing else, and take in new information on top of intact memories.
I chose Tourettes Syndrome because this affects many people and their daily lives. Some people just judge others with the syndrome with out knowing they have Tourettes. In this project I learned that 1 in 360 children are diagnosed with Tourettes syndrome once from the age of 6-17. I also learned that Tourettes has similar effects with OCD,ADHD and Depression. lastly I lead that some time you can have Tourettes with out knowing it because some times it can be very random by sometimes not happening often to some times very often.
I chose snoring as a topic because it is a extremely common thing that happens to everyone and I didn’t really know anything about this topic and I am very interested to find out some more information about this topic. I also chose snoring as a topic because me, my family and my friends probably snore. I think it affects not only teenagers but everyone, including me because of sleep lose and even just being annoyed at someone for snoring.
In this project I learned how snoring occurs, how to avoid or stop snoring and cool facts about the topic. More specifically speaking I learned that snoring is caused by someone having trouble breathing through their nose and mouth causing a grunting noise while asleep. I also learned snoring can be avoided by simply sleeping on your side instead of on your back and that people who smoke or inhale lots of 2nd hand smoke. Before I knew almost nothing about this topic but now just in short amount time I learned so much. All of the things I learned will completely change my way of thinking in not only wellness but in my daily life that we should not get mad at anyone who snores because we all do it ourselves and snoring unintentional, and instead of getting mad we should guide them and tell them how to avoid snoring.
