I chose Hydrocephalus for my health buzz because I have had this condition and I didn’t know much about it so I decided this would be a good chance to learn about it. Knowing about Hydrocephalus is important because it can be diagnosed at any age.
I learned that Hydrocephalus can be diagnosed at any age, not just premature babies like I was. I thought it was an issue that was not too serious, but after researching it I now know that it is a condition that needs to be treated immediately.
Scrolling through my Facebook news feed, I found an article that caught my attention.“A 29-year-old chooses to end her own life”, seeing this article left me curious.‘Why would Buzzfeed report a suicide attempt’ I decided to click on this story. I watched a video that moved me and left me speechless. It was about the Brittany Maynard fund. In this video, it explained the concept of death with dignity and how it can change how a person would end his/her life. This was the first time I have ever heard of this concept called death-with-dignity law which is a physician-assisted death and a form of Euthanasia. This interested me.
A few days ago, I came across this topic again. I discovered that this topic has been debated on for years, so I decided that this topic should be brought to the attention all people even people as young as teenagers. This is very important topic because teenagers as young as our age can give our say on this topic and greatly impact the debate on this. Our say may affect this topic and finally find a conclusion to this issue. Concluding this issue will help people with terminal diseases greatly.
Euthanasia is a medical practice of ending a person’s life. There are different types of Euthanasia. Passive and Active Euthanasia is the 2 types of Euthanasia. Passive is stopping the use of common drugs/antibiotics & life supports that prolong a dying person’s life or not doing anything to prolong a dying patient’s life. Active Euthanasia is the practice of killing with lethal substances purposely.
As seen in the picture, it is the decision that separates life and death. As explained by the active lifeline and the flat lifeline. It is in the hands of different types of people. Voluntary Euthanasia is physician assisted suicide. The decision is made by the patient him/herself. Non-voluntary euthanasia is when the decision cannot be made by the patient so a person in authority will make the decision. Involuntary Euthanasia is when the decision made is against the patient’s will. As of now, Euthanasia is only legal in Netherlands,Belgium,Luxembourg,Switzerland,Estonia,Albania, the US states of Washington,Oregon and Montana, and Canadian province of Quebec.
Before I researched about this issue, I thought Euthanasia was simply physician assisted suicide which seemed unacceptable but as I got more educated about this issue, I learned that taking the patient out of life support is also Euthanasia. Because of this research, I finally understood the situation of people with terminal diseases. Seeing the opinions of people with terminal diseases on Euthanasia, made me understand this topic. I learned that the option of Euthanasia gave them a piece of mind because they had a set date of their death and they could escape the gradually increasing pain. This made me pity them and put myself in their situation, so I became more open-minded about this topic.
