My Health buzz is about Motor Neurone disease or better known as ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). I chose this topic because I believe that Motor Neurone Disease is one of the most horrible diseases that you can be diagnosed with. I personally think this because of the passing of my grandfather. He got diagnosed with this disease in 2010 when he was 65 and died in 2013 when he was 67. I was only 9 when he died and I didn’t completely understand the disease. As I visited my Grandpa a couple of times a month, I saw that his condition would get worse and worse until he wasn’t able to speak or move. It is important that people are aware of this diseases and donate to this cause so that we can find a cure to this disease.
During my research I learned that Motor Neurone Diseases are a group of disorders that destroy a group of cells. These cells affect the control of essential muscle activity like, walking, talking, breathing, swallowing and chewing. There are two types of Motor Neuron cell groups, Upper and Lower Motor Neuron. Lower controls body parts like arms, legs, chest, face, throat, and tongue, while Upper control very important things like walking, chewing and swallowing. This is made me think about what we have and what we can use while others are really suffering. We don’t notice how much we use our bodies until we can’t. We cannot find a cure ourselves but we can donate to help scientist and spread awareness about this disease.
