Sleep talking is formally known as Somniloquy. Somniloquy is a sleep disorder defined as talking during sleep without being aware of it. Sleep talking can involve complicated dialogues or monologues, it can consist of complete gibberish or mumbling. I chose to do sleep talking because, I know that I have talked in my sleep before and I know other people talk in their sleep as well.While researching about this topic I found out that sleep talking is most common in males and in children. I am not saying women don’t sleep talk, but males are more common to talk in their sleep. What causes sleep talk or Somniloquy is stress, depression, daytime drowsiness, alcohol, nightmares, not getting enough sleep, and REM (rapid eye movement).
This has changed my thinking because before I researched on this topic i thought that people just talk in their sleep but now I know that there are reasons why people sleep talk.
