This topic is relevant to me because I have always been interested in what happens to us when we sleep. I used to know that we went through some cycle between deep sleep and lighter sleep (where we dreamed), but I never really knew that much about the subject before now. I think that this topic is important to know about because I believe that we all should get to know ourselves as best we can, and getting to know our self’s asleep, is no different than getting to know our self when we are awake. It is also important because we must understand ourselves before we can hope to improve ourselves, on build upon ourselves if that is what we aim to do.
This topic effects teenager because at our age we need a lot of sleep. Because of this, I believe that it is important to understand how our body works when we sleep because it is such a vital thing for us right now, and how much sleep you get, might effect how you turn out as an adult later.
I learned that there were two main cycles of sleep. REM and Non-REM sleep. There are about 3 sub cycles within those main cycles. I also learned, that when you are in REM sleep, this is the part of your sleep where you do the majority of your dreaming. You can dream in Non-REM sleep, but it is mostly impressions, or feelings, rather than a 3D mind movie (like you find in REM sleep).
My final opinion is that it is very important to get enough sleep. We rely on being able to sleep at night, and if that was taken away from us, we would go down hill very quickly.
Not everyone gets the recommend amount of sleep, so if people know more about this topic, then maybe they will be inclined to get more sleep.
