My health buzz is about Anorexia.
What is Anorexia? Anorexia is a lack or loss of appetite for food. Anorexia can make you obsessive to lose weight by refusing to eat or push yourself through excessive workout. Sometimes people starve themselves to be thin and skinny. The little they eat become an obsession. They see in their body in larger shapes and sizes than the reality.
How does it affect teenagers? Anorexia affects teenagers because at that age many people start bullying others about their weight and body shape. Then those sensitive people will start losing weight and they get obsessive about staying thin. Sometimes teenagers see models that are thin and beautiful and those teenagers get influenced by them and they try to get thin as them.
Why is this important? Anorexia is important because anyone can get that disorder. You can be skinny or not, boy or girl, rich or poor, teenager or adult and unfortunately be anorexic. You can die from it because you starve yourself to be thin and skinny when sometimes you are already skinny.
Why does it relate to me? Anorexia relates to me because one of my second cousins is anorexic and she starved herself to long that she is in a hospital right now. She is 16 years old and she weight around 30 kilos. Thank god that she accepted to be treated because if she wasn’t she could have died. It will take a long time for her to get her self-confidence back and start eating properly and gain an acceptable weight again.
How has my thinking changed? I used to think that Anorexia was just you wanting to become skinny and thin not starving yourself to become skinnier. Now I know that Anorexia is an eating disorder that push the person anorexic to starve herself/himself to become skinnier than what they are supposed to be according to their height and/or age. The anorexic person will not see her/his real image, even skinny they will find themselves chubby.
I understand that people who are anorexic sometimes eat very little and do excessive workout to keep their weight to the ideal range. Their weight is an obsession.
