Loving Yourself: Tanvi

I personally think that loving yourself ties in a lot with the topic of respect that we just learned about. Loving yourself is basically respecting yourself, but more direct, I suppose. I think it’s sad to know that some people have a hard time talking about things they love about themselves, as opposed to naming their flaws. I can personally relate to this topic a lot because of some situations I was faced upon with in life. I also think that people generally with low self esteem are usually the ones that stumble along this pathway, and think negatively about themselves. Same with teenagers – often times, comparing ourselves to others, and bringing ourselves down, is what a lot of teenagers do.

I learned that loving yourself ties a lot in with many aspects of wellness – respect, self-esteem, emotional health, and much more. Some of the problems if people don’t love themselves, are that people try to hurt themselves in such a way, that other people get hurt with them. Because often times, many people have a hard time loving themselves the way they are, they try to change themselves for other people, which is not the right thing to do. People should be happy with what they are, and shouldn’t try to change themselves for other people’s happiness!Blog post

I learned a lot from this topic, but most of all, my thinking changed, because now, I think that everyone is different. People can change how they want other people to perceive them to be, but everyone is still very different and individual in their own way. I’m a firm believer that everyone in this world is beautiful in their own way. So keep your head up, and remind yourself that you’re worth everything you have. I hope that my presentation to the class wasn’t as cheesy as I thought it would be (which I still think it was). I hope you enjoyed my presentation and found the topic as interesting as I did!

Every 71 seconds someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This statistic supports the fact that it is the sixth cause of death in the United States. Seeing as so many people are affected with this disease, the issue’s relevance is quite important. It causes memory loss, and changes in thinking and behavior. Apart from affecting people with Alzheimer’s, the disease also has a huge impact on associated people. This could include family, friends, caregivers, etc. This topic is especially sensitive for me – my grandma has Alzheimer’s. To deal with Alzheimer’s, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the disease. Currently, there is no cure, so all you can do is make sure that you develop coping techniques and that you have a strong family support system to deal with all the effects Alzheimer’s has on the mind. These effects include memory loss, challenges solving problems, difficulty completing daily tasks, confusion with time and dates, trouble processing visuals and spatial relationships, problems with communication, and change in mood and personality, etc.

After completing all this research I have solidified my understanding of the topic. One most accept that as your body ages, so does your brain. One cannot let this horrible disease affect your relationship to people who suffer from it – they cannot help their misfortunes. I thought at first that along with their memory, they lose their knowledge too, but this is most certainly not the case. These people are still very intellectual people, and should be treated accordingly.

I chose this topic, because sometimes, I be really negative, and I think a lot of teenagers tend to be negative.

What are negative people like? Negative people are often afraid to try new things, because they are scared to fail. They have really low self-esteem and they don’t find any strengths about themselves. They take everything in negative ways. For example, even if you make positive comments to them, but their response is really negative.

What are some problems negativity can cause? Negativity can cause many health problems such as stress, depression, stroke and heart attack. Also, negativity could break your relationships with others, because a lot of people don’t like it when you are being negative. Talking with negative people is not very fun for a lot of people. They might want to stop talking with you or being friends with you. Negativity could also affect how long you will live.

How to stop being negative? To avoid being negative, you should be surrounded by people who are very positive, because people around you can influence you a lot. Stop complaining about others, and start finding good things about people. This helps you to avoid being negative, because when you find good things about someone, your opinion about them will change in a positive way, and you will learn how to think positively. Do what you want. Negative people are often negative, because they don’t do what they want. This helps you, because if you do what you want, you can be happy. Give yourself a break. It doesn’t make anything better if you blame yourself when you make a mistake. Set one small, specific, achievable goal and write it down,             because  negative people aren’t making any progress. Positive people always have a goal for them and trying to achieve it.

Why is being positive so important? If you be positive, you can live longer. Some people say that positive people can  live about 10 years longer than negative people. So, they have a better life than negative people. Also, positive people are more social and have more friends. It can keep your heart healthy. Negative people have negative thought and ideas in their brain and it’s bad for your health.

How did my thinking change? I thought there aren’t  really a lot of way to avoid being negative, and thought that it’s kind of hard to be positive. But now I know that there are a lot of solutions that seems pretty easy and I realized that being positive is not very hard.
