What is Obesity?
Obesity is when you have a lot of body fat. This is different from other things like being overweight, which would mean weighing too much. This includes muscle, bone, fat, body water etc. One interesting fact about this is that worldwide obesity has doubled since 1980. One more interesting fact about this is that more than 40 million children, who were under the age of five, were overweight in 2011.
What causes Obesity?
Obesity can take place when you have a higher intake of calories, then the calories that are used by your body. The amount of calories you should eat everyday depends on your height, weight, daily exercise etc. A person with the body mass index of 30 or more is obese. Emotional factors can also lead to obesity, like when you are bored you tend to eat more. Research shows that people, who sleep less, eat more food because they prefer to eat foods that are high in calories.
What does Obesity cause?
Obesity increases your chances of getting certain diseases like heart disease, diabetes and some cancers.
What can we do to prevent it?
You can come up with your own exercise plane, for us we need about 60 minutes of regular exercise every day. Eat healthy meals, include fruits and vegetables, and prevent foods that are very oily. You should have a healthy diet, that includes the specific amounts of each type of category from the: My Pyramid. You shouldn’t eat too much of each type of the category.
Why is this topic important?
This topic is important because child obesity and adult obesity is increasing around the world. This is a major problem as obesity can lead to many diseases as I said. It is important that we know about this so we can prevent this from happening to us, so we can be safe.
