Swimming by Sarah

Many people maybe find it a bit hard to choose a sport to stick too, so today I will tell you why swimming is a great, if not the best choice.

This personally relates to me because I do a lot of swimming and it is one of the sports I have chosen to stick to. It is important because I go swimming almost everyday.

How does it affect teenagers

It affects teenagers because it can be either an individual or team sport so they can enjoy the company of friends and focus on themselves individually. It is also a really good sport for physical fitness.

A lot of people may think swimming is simply child’s play or summer time fun. But swimming is actually a very physical sport, and you can have a fun time doing it too.

What swimming helps with:

Swimming provides spectacular cardiovascular conditioning, only if you practice consistently.

Swimming builds longer, leaner muscles. “Swimmer’s muscles” also help boost metabolism to keep calories burning longer.

A heated pool relaxes muscles, increasing flexibility. After other exercises, an easy swim helps flush out toxins preventing muscle tightness and soreness the following day.

Why choose swimming over other sports:

Running increases cardiovascular fitness and tones the lower body.

Rowing builds endurance and strength in both the upper body and lower body.

Weightlifting tones or builds strength in the muscles targeted.

Pilates and yoga improve core strength and flexibility.

When you’re a swimmer, there’s no need to choose each day whether you’ll focus on your upper body or lower body, muscular strength or cardiovascular endurance, core strength or overall flexibility.

Problem and Solution

  • Swimmer’s ear is an inflammation of the ear canal, it is the growth of bacteria.

Keep ears dry by gently tipping the head from side to side after each swim. Dry the outer ear with a soft towel or cloth to get rid of any water.

Did you know:

  • An hour of vigorous swimming will burn up to 650 calories. It burns off more calories than walking or biking.

  • Swimming is also good for reducing stress and because the buoyancy of the water reduces body weight by about 90%

  • Because water is about 800 times denser than air, you can work harder, and burn more calories, in a pool than out of it.

What did I learn

I learned that swimming helps with all the 5 components of fitness. Cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

What is my final opinion on this

Swimming is the best sport on offer. This is because it helps with all the 5 components of fitness and it helps socially mentally and physically. It is also a very fun way to stay fit and healthy. I think everyone needs to have swimming in their life even for just a little bit.

How has my thinking changed

At first I only thought swimming was just for physical fitness. Well, it is but I only thought it helped a little but actually it helps your upper body and lower body, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance, core strength and overall flexibility.
