Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder. It is when you have an intense fear of gaining weight and have a distorted body image. It’s limiting the amount of food you consume and when you are willing to do anything, including your health, for a slim and skinny body. I chose this topic as my health-buzz because a lot of middle schoolers and teenagers are experiencing this. It is very common in teenagers, especially girls, to have anorexia because of how they start to care more about their appearance. Anorexia causes the body to be very unhealthy and can be a gateway to these following effects; low blood pressure, kidney stones, thin and weak hair, weak muscles, brain can’t work/ think right and much more. I learned that a person’s social, emotional, physical and mental health can change drastically because of anorexia. It can make the person want to feel accepted and fit in. It is usually caused by depression and distorted body image. It makes the person’s body extremely brittle and unhealthy. And finally, it affects the how the brain functions. Steps to resolving anorexia are:
1. Admit you have a problem
2. Talk to someone
3. Stay away from people, places, and activities that trigger your obsession with losing weight
4. Seek professional help
Some problems related to anorexia are, mood swings, lack of energy, poor memory, dry and yellowish skin, brittle nails, constipation and bloating, tooth decay, gum damage and dizziness. My final opinion about this issue is that it is very unhealthy and no one should ever have an eating disorder. There is always a better and healthier way of approaching goals. Now I am starting to change my eating habits by eating more healthy food and start exercising more.
