In case you haven’t met the Chillin Villains yet, here they are!
I picked depression because, I just feel horrendous about how some of their problems are caused by us, and many others. Its important because some of the depression victims don’t ever get to see hope again, some of them kill themselves, and hurt themselves in a horrible way, which includes cutting, burning themselves, and many others. And, some people don’t even confide in anyone, or hides it away with a smile- so no one would notice. They dont want to tell anyone, as they are scared they might get judged or hurt because of it. They don’t want anyone to worry, or- well- there is A LOT of reasons why someone could be depressed and hide it away. Sometimes, the depressed person is the one who smiles all the time, or the one who laughs the loudest. It’s not always obvious to spot depression. And, its also important because now so many people joke about it and say its just an act-when its not. It is not, they have their own problems and since when do you know about their problems? You don’t, because they don’t tell anyone. It’s sick how people joke about it. It is also horrible when people don’t acknowledge it and how people say it over some of the simplest of things. Depression is horrible (understatement), and it can cause them to suicide. I also chose this topic because i am sick of hearing people say “i hate my life” or “I want to kill myself” over the most stupid of things. One of my friends told me that when they were losing in a game. Depression isnt an act, and you shouldn’t say you have it unless you have it. There are 9 types of depression: Dysthymia (its two years or more, and its less critical than major depression, but people experience periods of major depression, trouble concentrating, sleeping, etc) , Bipolar Depression/Manic Depression (Huge/dramatic mood swings, hallucinations and paranoia, sleepiness but a lot of energy, irritably, not connected and fast thoughts, critical insomnia, and more.) , Major Depressive disorder/clinical depression ( messes up sleeping, eating, working, studying, and etc. poor appetite or overeating; insomnia or excessive sleep; not a lot energ; low self-esteem; can’t concentrate; and hopelessness as well as not being clear or exhaustion, serious,) are the most common. There is also Situational depression, psychotic depression, atypical depression (where you oversleep, exhaustion, overeating, a lot of sensitivity to rejection, moods that become worse, or better due to certain events) seasonal depression, postpartum (which happens because of pregnancy) depression and endogenous depression. There are so many causes of depressions, some are so little, and some are so huge. There are also a lot of symptoms and way to fix depression-either its yours or a friends. Some of the causes are:
Traumatic Experiences Life events
The pressure to be perfect
End of a tv show or a movie
Where you live
Too many choices
Drug and Alcohol use
Changes in the brain
And some of the many symptoms are:
Thinking the world will be better without you
Changes in Sleeping patterns (insomnia, sleeping alot, or barely any sleep)
Feelings of guilt, or worthlessness
Wants to avoid social situations
Has lost interest in stuff that is fun, makes them happy, or etc.
Unable to find meaning in life
Become forgetful, disorganized or ‘out of it’
Complains of aches and pains over and over again (back pain, stomach pain, headaches)
Seems like a completely different person
Person doesnt care about their appearance, or proper grooming or etc.
Trouble remembering, concentrating or making decisions
Do you know that moment when you put in earphones to a song you really like, or relate to and it makes you feel instantly better? Well, it helps control depression at the same times. It helps you with your emotions in general. Counselling/Therapy is the most obvious ways to reason with it. You can help others so much, either just by smiling at them or complimenting of them- and it just helps them so much. So smile and be nice to others, you don’t know how much it can help.

People control their depression by doing bad stuff to themselves by self harming and doing drugs, which doesn’t work as the drugs most of them take are depressants. Most of them hide their feelings away, or train themselves not to feel anything any more. Those are bad, and you need to help them. There are plenty ways to free yourself/a friend from being under depression’s spell. For example: Therapy, counseling, talking, making a journal, music, social activities, get sunlight, look for help. Remember, when talking to a friend who has depression and trying to help them- be there when they need it, but not all the time as it can make you depressed to, so have some you time. To help them, acknowledge the symptoms, don’t make jokes about it, know what to say, don’t laugh or say they are overreacting, acknowledge the problem, understand, be patient and a lot more. Did you know 34, 598 suicides a year, 94 suicides per day, and one attempt every 38 seconds? Be kind, you can save a life. Kevin Berthia is a man, who was going to kill himself on the Golden Gate bridge, a police officer, Kevin Briggs talked to him, for 60 minutes and it saved his life. 8 years ago, he met with the suicidal man and saw how he was happy married man with two kids, with a successful job. On October 18, 2013- a bus driver named Darnell Barton saved a woman from jumping off Buffalo Bridge. This shows anyone can be a hero, if you’re a cop or a bus driver. You can save a life, just like those people. Another thing, is To Write Love On Her Arms, which is a non profit organization which sells stuff like hoodies, beanies, phone cases to spread the word about all the bad things happening to the people with depression and self injuring and etc. I fully support them all the way, and I hope you learn more about depression in this article. But lastly, not everyone who is depressed has marks on their arms, or sad faces, they can have smiley faces or have the loudest laugh. Depression isnt always as easy to spot. And it’s not a joke, or an act of say that they are overreacting because being depressed usually makes them vulnerable or stuff like that, so try to understand and empathize and try to help and don’t tell anyone or make fun of them. That gives you no right to call those people mean names. They are vulnerable and gullible so, don’t do anything bad to them, accept them, don’t make fun of them, empathize with them. They need it. Sorry about this sensitive topic in advance, but I really care about this topic.
“That’s the thing about depression: A human being can survive almost anything, as long as she sees the end in sight. But depression is so insidious, and it compounds daily, that it’s impossible to ever see the end. The fog is like a cage without a key.“
“There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.”
Running is a sport that benefits you in many different ways but do you know the consequences? Do you know… the dangers of running?
First of all there are injuries to the foot, ankle, knee and the leg. Also there is joint pain by lactic acid and cartilage destruction. Not to mention the inflammation of tendons. Also there is an indefinite loss of calcium and harm to the adrenal glands.
Capricorn: prone to leg or knee injuries
Aquarius: prone to ankle injuries
Pisces: Prone to feet/toe injuries
Means of prevention:
Use shock absorbers in your shoes, Refrain from running distances further than 5 miles, Run on soft dirt or grass surfaces
Also you can try other sports like yoga or biking along with running.
l think this is important because people are always running long marathons without thinking of the dangers
This issue is relevant to me as a teenager because it affects many people around my age and even some of my friends have gotten sick of it before! Dengue is important to know about because if you don’t, then you might get sick with Dengue yourself! Dengue affects teenagers by causing your blood to get infected. This leaves you with symptoms such as headaches, rashes, muscle pains, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I learnt that dengue is caused when you get bitten by a kind of dengue carrying mosquito. I also learned that regular mosquitos turn into dengue carrying mosquitos when they bite someone who already has dengue or DHF, that’s why dengue is becoming more and more popular. To avoid catching Dengue, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid being outdoors at dawn, dusk, or early evening, and use mosquito repellent when you go outdoors. My final opinion on this issue is that more people need to learn about how to keep yourself safe from dengue as hundreds of people still fall prone to it every year. I used to think that Dengue was only really rare and it barely ever happened but now I know that anyone could fall sick with Dengue at any time!
Body image refers to how people see themselves. Have you notice that 58 percent of college-aged girls feel pressured to be a certain weight. Children with positive body image usually like most things about themselves. They like they way they looked. Teenagers who feel good about themselves make friends easily. And they try new things. Most of the time, you see yourself accurately, you feel comfortable with you body.
Children with negative body image usually don’t like the way they looked. And they don’t really like about themselves.
There is a lot you can do to improve your body image, even without changing your body. Some people choose to change the way they feel about their bodies. Many times, talking with a person you trust, such as a friend or family member, about the way you feel can help.Have you notice, when teenagers try out new hairstyles and clothes, they are making a statement about themselves. Celebrate all of the amazing things your body does for you—running, dancing, breathing, laughing, dreaming, etc. Keep a top-ten list of things you like about yourself—things that aren’t related to how much you weigh or what you look like.
The topic I am presenting is “Second – Hand Smoking” or (SHS). SHS has affected all of us at one point or another. Have you ever walked but a group of smokers and tasted the smoke in you’re mouth? Well I am sure everyone has, that is second – hand smoking. This affects teenagers everywhere, most teenagers want to get out of their homes and go out with their friends. But people smoke everywhere, and therefore teenagers get it into their systems little by little. Before I researched and read up on this topic, I didn’t really think that it was as bad for you as it actually is. I didn’t realize that it increases the chance of heart disease, lung cancer and many more diseases. I learned that even is you don’t smoke, you can still have the same health risks because everyone doing it around you. Some solutions associated SHS that have been are put into action are workplaces and indoor public places, including restaurants, bars and nightclubs, as well as others. There are countless problems connected with the issue of second – hand smoking, there are many diseases as well as disabilities. You can even die from SHS. My final opinion on this issue is that we should take more action into decreasing the amount of smoking allowed. This will not only help to stop innocent people from dying, but it will be better for the smokers themselves. My thinking has changed from me thinking that this wasn’t that big of an issue, into what I think now which is that we should take some action into solving this problem.
It’s important because it showed me that marijuana might not be as dangerous as other drugs, but it could still effect you in a big way. It effects teenagers because teens might think that it is cool to do marijuana and end up hurt. I learned that marijuana is a very common drug in America and that it is dangerous to my health and intelligence. Some problems connected to this issue is loss of brain cells and Iq. This is really bad for teens. I would say that marijuana is a powerful drug that can change somebodies life in a bad way. My thinking has changed because I used to think that this drug wasn’t that bad. Now I think that it is dangerous and should never be used.

Alien hand syndrome is when your hand moves without you intending to. People often think it is referring to the physical appearance of the hand but it is not. At times it can even be fatal since your hand may strangle you or others since the hand has a mind of its own. You can still feel your hand but the actions it does are uncontrolled. People who have this disease do not suffer from it all the time since it happens occasionally. This disease is not contagious and I will explain to you why later. There are not many symptoms to this disease since it happen suddenly but if you feel like your hand is doing anything out of the ordinary there is a pretty good chance that you will suffer this disease. This may include involuntary jerks or anything similar. People still do not know the exact cause of this disease since it is not very common but it has long been believed that the main cause why this disease occurs is because there might be damage to the corpus callosum of the victim. The other possibility is that your control over the part of the brain which controls the hand is telling your hand to move around unconsciously. This means that this syndrome is not contagious since it is associated with the brain. Sadly, there is no cure or remedy to this syndrome since no one exactly know what is the cause of this syndrome.
